HITECH and Meaningful Use

What is HITECH?  The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act provides for incentive payments to physicians for so-called "meaningful use" of certified EMR software.  The program is scheduled to start in October 2010 and payments will be given starting 2011 through 2016.  To qualify for payments, providers must use a certified EMR and demonstrate what is called "meaningful use".  Details of the program are available here.

Interoperability is key for any EMR product to remain viable for the foreseeable future.  The ongoing development of Doxio is geared towards achieving certification for meaningful use, but not at the expense of retaining its core functionality and ease of use.  The numerous criteria required for meaningful use will be implemented in phases over the coming months.  Stay tuned!
